Shrink Ray: Designing Hot Wheels - Mustang Countdown
Creating a Ford Mustang that looks right when it's only two inches long is not as simple as just dividing all the dimensions by 64. As chief designer for Hot Wheels, Felix explains that his design team starts with digital CAD models from automakers like Ford and then proceeds to increase the size of the wheels while shrinking other details such as mirrors.
Mustang has been a part of the Hot Wheels lineup since the very first series was produced in 1968 with tens of millions of toys produced since then, making the diminutive rides the best selling ponies of all time.
