Peugeot's Marcus Gronholm crashed on the 19kms run through Cosquin - Villa Allende after leading the Rally of Argentina - partly due to relentless pressure from Carlos Sainz. The gap with the Spaniard was just 8.4 seconds overnight, and whilst Gronholm had eaked out a few seconds more by the middle of the second leg, the Citroen man had clearly unsettled the Peugeot driver which resulted in another disappointing rally exit. Carlos leads his team-mate Sebastien Loeb by over a minute and a half as the rally nears the end of the second leg. However, there is plenty more action to come in Round 8 of the 2004 Championship.
