Bloodhound SSC - 1000 MPH Hybrid Rocket System - Explained
The Bloodhound SSC aims to be the first land vehicle to break 1,000 mph. It will accomplish this using various powerplants: a gas turbine, the EJ200 out of a Eurofighter Typhoon jet, and also a hybrid rocket system. The hybrid rocket system gets its name as it uses a liquid oxidizer with a solid fuel. The oxidizer is pumped by a supercharged Jaguar V8 engine through the solid rocket. The vehicle produces 210kN of thrust, or the equivalent of about 135,000 HP. This video explores how hybrid rocket systems work.
