Perguntado sobre o futuro, Hamilton diz que "sente que está apenas começando"

Com o heptacampeonato garantido, as atenções para Lewis Hamilton se voltam a discutir o seu futuro. Ainda sem contrato fechado com a Mercedes para a temporada 2021 da Fórmula 1, o assunto surgiu já na entrevista feita após o GP da Turquia. À transmissão mundial, o britânico disse que as campanhas antirracismo e de sustentabilidade da F1 estão entre as razões para que ele siga no esporte.

Após largar em sexto, Hamilton garantiu o sétimo mundial em alto estilo, com a vitória em meio a um caótico GP da Turquia.

Mas próximo de iniciar as conversas com a Mercedes para finalizar o novo contrato, Hamilton disse que a luta antirracismo que a F1 vem fazendo e a busca do esporte para se tornar mais sustentável são parte dos motivos que o animam a seguir.

"Sinto que estou apenas começando. É muito estranho. Me sinto bem física e mentalmente. Vocês sabem que esse ano tem sido difícil para milhões de pessoas. E sei que as coisas parecem boas aqui, no meio do palco, mas não é diferente para nós atletas e esse tem sido um desafio que ainda não soube como superar".

"Mas com a ajuda de grandes pessoas ao meu redor, na equipe e meus fãs, eu consegui manter minha cabeça focada e espero que ano que vem seja melhor. Eu adoraria ficar. Sinto que posso contribuir muito aqui. Vocês sabem que estamos apenas começando".

"Eu trabalho para que todos tenham consciência de que, como esporte, temos que enfrentar e não ignorar os problemas humanos que cercam os países que visitamos e como podemos trabalhar com eles para ajudar a empoderar e fazer mudanças que estarão presentes daqui a 10, 20 anos. Quero ajudar a F1 e a Mercedes nessa jornada".

"E particularmente nessa luta por mais sustentabilidade do esporte, precisamos ser mais sustentáveis. Quero tentar ver se posso integrar isso, pelo menos na fase inicial, ficando um pouco mais".

Hamilton ainda foi perguntado sobre como ele faria para comemorar o heptacampeonato em meio às restrições da pandemia.

"Esse ano não tem sido fácil. Eu não saí para jantar nenhuma vez. Eu fico apenas na minha bolha e não tenho nada demais acontecendo além disso. Eu estava lutando por um campeonato então não queria correr riscos".

"Acho que nesse ano eu sacrifiquei mais do que em qualquer outro da minha vida. E isso tornou tudo mais difícil. Acredito que hoje eu vou pra casa e o mais emocionante que farei é assistir a corrida, tomar uma sopa e abrir uma garrafa de vinho".

"Eu vou esperar até o momento de poder ficar com a minha família e meus amigos, porque quero compartilhar isso com eles. Não fiz planos antes porque não queria colocar uma pressão desnecessária. Queria ver e fazer o trabalho que fiz hoje. Estou muito orgulhoso dessa".

"Tive muitos desafios pelo caminho. Me lembro de Mônaco 2008 e o que eu fiz na China em 2007 com aqueles pneus, perdendo o campeonato ali e tudo mais que me fez aprender para aplicar hoje. É foi isso que vocês viram na corrida".

Hamilton ainda falou sobre igualar a marca de Schumacher e o que o heptacampeão representa para ele.

"Eu falo sempre que isso é algo muito além dos meus sonhos. Mas acho que na minha vida inteira, eu secretamente pensava nisso. Mas parecia algo tão inalcançável. Eu me lembro de assistir Michael vencendo todos esses campeonatos e nós, pilotos, sempre queremos fazer o nosso melhor e conquistar, um, dois, até três, mas isso é algo muito difícil. Imagina sete!".

"Sete parecia algo inimaginável, mas quando você trabalha com um grande grupo como esse e você se comunica e confia uns nos outros, não há limite no que pode ser feito. E sinto muito orgulho do trabalho feito. E essa confiança toda vem com a experiência".
